This 33-minute DVD celebrates the 50th anniversary of the opening of Michigan's iconic Mackinac Bridge by combining historic live-action footage with modern-day interviews, capturing both the passion and legacy of the bridge backers, and the enthusiasm of the workers who braved high winds, strong currents, and deep, icy waters to build a bridge spanning the Straits of Mackinac.

Today, travelers cross the Mackinac Straits without ever leaving their cars, but until 1957 it was necessary to take a break from highway driving in order to cross on one of the many state-operated ferries.  The carferries operated along with the famous train ferry Chief Wawatam.  While the 'Chief' operated into the 1970s, carferry service ended on November 1, 1957, the day the Mighty Mac was opened.  Take a trip with us back in time and see what straits travel was like before the Bridge.  Through the use of rare color footage and interviews with former ferry workers, we'll make this journe

This video is a new documentary about Michigan's most famous icon, the Mackinac Bridge.  From anchor block to anchor block the Mighty Mac remains the worlds longest suspension bridge.  This documentary includes extremely rare archival 16 mm color footage and audio recordings of Dr. Steinman and other key individuals who played important roles in the building of the bridges.  The program is both fun and education for all ages.

This presentation covers the methods used for sampling HMA paving mixtures at the paving site - immediately behind the paver and prior to rolling.
